Jet Skis and Water Skis

Jet Skis and Water Skis

Jet Skis can be any type of personal watercraft. The are alsos called Waverunners.  Some have pivoting handlepoles for “stand up” riding and others are made for sitting down. In the late eighties two person models were introduced.

With the use of superchargers, the engines can produce up to 260 horse power. Freestyle riding of personal watercraft is done mostly on a stand up PWC and involves many different tricks, such as big air, hood tricks and technical tricks. Freeride, where the rider surfs waves like a surfer would and uses the waves as a jump ramp for aerial maneuvers is the most extreme mode of jetskiing. There is also closed course racing.

In Waterskiing, the skier is towed by a motorboat while holding a cable or rope and skimming over the surface of the water.  The length of rope and the speed will depend on the skill and experience of the skier. Trick skiing is performed by skiers similar to gymnastics.

In slolum skiing only one ski is used. It is a special ski called a slolum ski similar to a snow board. Ski jumping is performed by using two long skis and a ramp where the skier can hit ramp speed of up to 70 mph and jump distances of up to 250 feet. There is also waterski racing.
